The Lead Business Architect Will Play a Key Role In Identifying, Documenting, Illustrating And Contextualising The Institution's Interconnectedness Of People, Processes, Technology And Other Systems To Enable The Relevant Role Players To Work Towards:


operational efficiency;

reduce cost and promote simplification by developing a roadmap and runway for growth and innovation.




Duties/Pligte


Leading and managing the business architecture portfolio


Ensuring that job descriptions, work agreements and PDPs are formulated, tracked and updated as needed for direct reports.

Conducting regular check-ins with direct reports and allocated resources within the matrix structure.



Defining, leading and managing the business architecture portfolio


Aligning the business architecture practice to industry standards applicable to IT and higher education environments or others.

Defining, contextualising and aligning the business architecture strategy, goals and objectives to SU's by working closely with the University's internal and external stakeholders.

Identifying, defining and implementing relevant domain definitions, standards, patterns, templates, tools, artefacts and outputs to enable a holistic, integrated, up to date view for each business portfolio.

Contributing to the architecture roadmaps and runways based on the inputs received from various stakeholders, the industry, and other sources, to generate insights for decision-making, planning and prioritisation.

Adhering to the institutional architecture's ways of working across SU.

Fostering innovation across the business architecture domain.



Leading and managing the business architecture advisory process and ways of working


Liaising and providing guidelines to peers, community of practice and others to enable them and their teams to collaborate with the business architecture practice to deliver required architecture artefacts and outputs.

Identifying and liaising with architects (direct and in matrix structure) to ensure that business architecture artefacts and outputs are aligned to the overall architecture goals and objectives.

Identifying, defining and maturing ways of working for the business architecture practice and domain.

Identifying and managing communities of practices within business architecture to drive architectural objectives or goals for the domain.

Liaising with RMs and other role players to enable them to identify, define, document and contextualise the required business architecture artefacts and outputs with their stakeholders.

Driving adoption of the business architecture practice within SU across all domains, layers and stakeholder groups.



Leading and managing the business architecture reviews, governance and architecture risks


Ensuring adherence to architecture governance requirements and that relevant items serve at the various architecture governing bodies.

Identifying and leading the regular review of the business architecture artefacts and outputs.

Adhering to the institutional architecture quality assurance metrics in collaboration with stakeholders.

Identifying, registering, and tracking the resolution of business architecture risks.



Participating In Related Business And IT Functions And Processes


Assisting with the implementation and oversight of the ICT institutional Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Communication Plan (Regulation, Playbook and Pocketbooks) for the business architecture domain.

Participating in or leading policy changes, workgroups, committees and other bodies within SU and external as required.

Adhering to SU and IT requirements defined for other practices or capabilities managed by other IT directors.

Participating in or leading initiatives as an SME.




Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes


Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business management, or equivalent.

Experience in Agile or other delivery methodologies.

At least five years' or more work experience in producing, contextualising business architecture artefacts and outputs, and experience with architecture principles and standards, OR at least ten years' or more work experience as a business analyst or equivalent with experience in requirements analysis, process mapping and optimisation, capability modelling, and planning and prioritisation.

More than five years' experience in leading teams as direct reports or within projects or initiatives.

More than five years' experience in higher education.

Flexibility in a fast-paced dynamic environment with shifting roles and responsibilities.

Demonstrable ability to evaluate options and apply them to complex institutional problems.

Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills to coordinate projectsand deliverables across IT and business.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of business architecture frameworks and standards.

A broad understanding of information technology topics and trends.
